No Excuses. Play like a Champion.
Let's make sure we stay on top of our work outside of class! Homework is a vital part of your grade, and you may not realize just HOW important it is. Check the Parent Portal to find out.
Welcome to English 1 C.P. We will be covering quite a few genres of literature this year, ranging from the epic poem to novels to dramas and tragedies. Students will be expected to hand in work on-time, as well as to respect the staff, their peers, and themselves while under my supervision.
Major Works (tentative):
Major Writing: We will be writing often, and students will receive consistent and constructive criticism during this time. For major writing assignments, students MUST hand in their first draft AND final draft. Students will be given opportunities for peer editing and specific help from the teacher. Students will have a minimum of 1 major writing assignment a marking period. All writing assignments will come with a rubric on how the assignment will be scored. ALL major writing assignments must be handed in as a hard copy as well as submitted on www.turnitin.com .

Late Work Policy: Work that is completed for the assigned due date will be scored appropriately. Homeworkwill be accepted one day late for half credit. Work turned in any later will not be accepted and put in as a zero. For major assignments, students will lose a letter grade per day for 3 days. Any major assignment handed in after 3 days will not be accepted.
Absences: Students are required to report to the teacher after an absence for any missed work/assignments. If a student is absent the day that an assignment is due, he/she must bring it back upon his/her return, regardless of whether it as an A or B day. If a student is absent for one day, he/she has a day to complete the assignment; two days of absence will grant a student two days to complete the work; and any more consecutive absences will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
Grades: Student grades can be found by dividing accumulated points by possible points.
The following are the typical values for assignments throughout the year. Tests, projects, and major writing assignments should be noted, but homework and class work will be frequent so they can really help or hinder a student’s grade.
